(KRON) -- President Donald Trump singled Oakland out by name Monday in a speech announcing he would be deploying the National Guard in Washington D.C. and federalizing its police department. Speaking to reporters in the White House's James Brady Briefing Room Monday, Trump said he would be deploying the guard to the nation's capital after previously posting on social media that the city would be "LIBERATED."

Trump said he would be declaring a public safety emergency in Washington, which he compared to the capitals of Iraq, Brazil, and Colombia. The president said that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi would be taking over the Washington metro police department.
