PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- With the possibility of triple-digit heat Monday, Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson has declared a state of emergency and opened three cooling centers.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory, warning that temperatures could exceed 100 degrees and will remain above 70 degrees overnight before temperatures spike again on Tuesday.
Starting at noon Monday, the state of emergency will go into effect, opening three daytime shelters, and extending operating hours for some Multnomah County libraries.
The shelters open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. are: • Gateway Church: 13300 Northeast San Rafael Street, Portland • Congregation Beth Israel: 1972 Northwest Flanders Street, Portland • Portland Covenant Church: 4046 Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. B
