A Charleston company that's the nation’s largest apartment manager has agreed to settle a federal lawsuit alleging it unlawfully shared pricing information with other companies to keep rental rates at an all-time high.

Greystar Real Estate Partners was among six firms pulled into the Jan. 7 complaint filed by the U.S. Department of Justice. The lawsuit alleged the defendants worked with a third-party software company, RealPage, to illegally share private data to align prices and keep them steep.

Greystar said on Aug. 8 that it reached a settlement agreeing it would enact a number of policies and adjust how it shares non-public data and configures prices. The firm did not admit to any wrongdoing under the deal.
