Nanaimo RCMP say public tips have led to the arrest of a man accused of assaulting his dog in late July, while the dog has been seized.
Police say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on July 27 in the 200-block of Selby Road, when a witness reported seeing a man punch and kick his German shepherd.
The witness took a photo of the man and the dog and later reported it to police. They reported they called out to the man telling him to stop when he is alleged to have approached the witness aggressively, demanding to see their phone.
The witness said they weren’t recording and the man and his dog walked away.
After RCMP released the photo on Aug. 5, investigators received more than 20 calls from the public identifying the suspect. On Aug. 7, officers arrested a 36-year-old man in the 100
