MARTINSBURG — The Berkeley County Health Department celebrated its new expansion on Monday as they strive to provide better services to the public. This new facility will help staff protect patient confidentiality and continue to ensure a healthy community as Berkeley County grows.
Before the building at 122 Waverly Court became the Health Department, it belonged to Hospice of the Panhandle. During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Maria Lorensen, chair of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce and Development Director at Hospice, talked about how she remembers going to the County Commission and asking them if they knew anyone who could use the building. It was that connection that led the Health Department to buy the building and offer their services there.
