OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A man accused of striking a pedestrian with a car and fleeing the scene has pleaded no contest in court Monday.

Christopher Renteria-Avila , 18 at the time of the incident, was arrested in October 2024 and charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in serious injury or death.

Police said Renteria-Avila hit 41-year-old Julio Estrada near Abbott Drive and Rivefront Drive on Oct. 15.

The police report states they were able to track Renteria-Avila to an apartment and speak with his mother, who said Renteria-Avila told her he had hit a deer near Carter Lake.

Monday, Renteria-Avila pleaded no contest to an amended charge of failure to stop and render aid.

He faces up to three years in prison and 18 months post-release supervision and or a $10,000 fine.
