HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WPTA) - A Huntington shelter is celebrating a young boy who used his birthday wish to gather donations to support local animals.

The Huntington County Humane Society shared a heartfelt post on its Facebook page on Monday, thanking George Michael for his donation.

They say that instead of requesting gifts for his birthday like other kids his age typically would, he requested that his friends and family donate to the shelter.

"We’re endlessly inspired when kids show such big compassion for animals,“ shelter leaders wrote. ”George, you’ve set the bar high for birthday wishes!"

The shelter says the boy’s family made the donations in “loving memory of Sweet Pea,” his grandmother’s dog who recently passed away.
