WHEELING, Ill. (WLS) -- Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker responded to President Donald Trump's threat to send the National Guard to Chicago.
On Monday, Trump invoked Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act in an executive order to declare a "crime emergency" so his administration could take over the city's police force.
"We have other cities that are also bad," Trump said. "You look at Chicago, how bad it is... We aren't going to lose our cities over this. This will go further, we are starting very strongly with D.C."
During a press conference on Monday, Pritzker noted to the Posse Comitatus law, saying the federal government does not have the right to send soldiers into American cities for any purpose.
