If you were sweating on Sunday, you had a valid reason: It was the hottest day of the year so far in Portland.

Temperatures at the Portland International Airport hit 99 degrees, according to Thomas Schuldt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland.

Up until Sunday, the hottest day of the year was July 16, when Portland hit 97 .

But, even as Portlanders try to recover from yesterday, Monday is set to get even hotter.

Multnomah County declared a state of emergency for dangerous heat, shelters opened and temperatures were expected to hit 100 .

“Today we’re running one or two degrees warmer at this time than we were yesterday,” Schuldt said. “So I think there’s a pretty good chance that we end up hitting the triple-digit mark for the first time this year.”
