FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The city of Fort Smith says mandatory Phase II Water Conservation Measures are still in effect following a water main break on Aug. 3.

The city says restrictions will remain in place until further notice.

According to the city, the water main break significantly lowered water levels in Fort Smith's in-town reservoirs and storage tanks.

Water pressure has been restored citywide, but several tanks, particularly in the southern part of town, are still not back to normal operating levels due to continued high usage.

The city says many customers have not followed the conservation protocols, and irrigation systems continue to run, delaying the system's recovery and extending restrictions.
