As part of an ongoing effort to tamp down violence in West Oahu, the Honolulu Police Department and the state Department of Law Enforcement will host a gun buyback event on Aug. 15 at the Waianae Police Station.

“The event offers residents a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted firearms, reducing the risk of gun-related violence in local neighborhoods,” read a news release from HPD. “This initiative is part of HPD’s broader efforts to create safer communities by proactively addressing the presence of unsecured weapons in homes. By working with residents, the department hopes to prevent future harm while promoting responsible ownership.”
