PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Monday marks the first day for the newly appointed Phoenix police chief, the first permanent head of the department in nearly three years.

Matt Giordano was selected to lead the Phoenix Police Department over two other finalists in June. His new role begins just over two months later.

Chief Giordano is no stranger to Phoenix PD. He’s a 23-year veteran of the department who retired as a commander in 2017. He also served as Executive Chief of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and, most recently, as the Executive Director of the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST).
