WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump is putting more federal law enforcement on the streets of the nation’s capital.
The Trump administration says local law enforcement alone is not enough to prevent crime in Washington, DC.
“The crime is ridiculous,” Trump said during a White House event Wednesday. “I could show you a chart comparing D.C. to other locations, and you’re not going to want to see what it looks like.”
Violent crime in Washington has significantly decreased over the last two years, coming off a dramatic spike in 2023, when D.C. had the fourth highest homicide rate in the country.
Trump suggested the federal takeover following a high profile carjacking related mugging of a former DOGE staffer known as “Big Balls.”
