SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — A 3-year-old girl is alive today because of the bravery and quick action of first responders in Spalding County.
On Sunday, Aug. 11, a car crashed into Dundee Lake. The driver, 23-year-old Nafeeza Samad, climbed out and stood on top of the sinking vehicle, leaving the toddler trapped inside underwater .
When emergency crews arrived, Spalding County Fire Lt. Johnathan Fetters immediately dove underwater to find the child. Deputy Nathan Gray held tightly onto Lt. Fetters to ensure his safety during the rescue.
Once they reached the shore, Deputy Samuel Holder and Deputy Zachary Whitmer began CPR without hesitation and continued until the child’s pulse returned.
The little girl was then flown to the hospital for further treatment.
