ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man charged with murdering a beloved pizza shop owner is set to go on trial early next year. Sylvan Alcachupas is accused of trying to rob Giovanni's Pizzeria on San Pedro Dr. near Kathryn Ave. three years ago, before shooting and killing Rosario Zito. The murder sent shockwaves through the community.
Monday morning, a judge scheduled Alcachupas's trial for January 8. It's expected to last eight days.
