A petition to preserve a sculpture in James E. Seney Triangle Park in Sylvania has more than 200 signatures since it was launched on Thursday at Change.org.

“I’m cautious, but optimistic about the public response so far,” said Anthony Haddad, who started the petition after a report by the Sylvania Community Arts Commission recommended the sculpture be replaced because it was in poor shape and has long-term maintenance needs.

The sculpture, called Triad of Trees, was created by artist Bruce Janssen and dedicated in 1988 in the park, located at Monroe Street and Alexis Road.

The sculpture is one of Sylvania’s most familiar landmarks, Mr. Haddad said.

“For over 35 years, it has greeted residents returning home — a quiet, graceful symbol of the ‘City of Trees,’” he said.
