President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will federalize the D.C. police and deploy the National Guard to the city, prompting fact checks on social media.
“This is liberation day in D.C., and we’re going to take our capital back,” Trump said during a news conference at the White House.
“Washington, D.C. should be one of the safest, cleanest, most beautiful places anywhere in the world. It was, years ago,” he said in concluding remarks.
