AUSTIN, Texas — Police are responding to a fatal shooting at the Target at 8601 Research Blvd., near Ohlen Road, in North Austin Monday afternoon.

The Austin Police Department (APD) said just before 3 p.m. that the suspect was still at large, but as of 3:13 p.m., KVUE has confirmed the suspect is in custody. APD Chief Lisa Davis told KVUE that the suspect carjacked a car in the Target parking lot and fled, but he was quickly tracked down and taken into custody.

Davis also confirmed that two people were shot and killed. The total number of people shot is between three and five, but no more than five. One of the people injured is a child.

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson also confirmed to KVUE that he has been notified of this shooting and was being briefed on the situation as of around 3:30 p.m.
