A new tropical storm has spun up in the eastern Atlantic, becoming the fifth named fury of the Atlantic hurricane season. Dubbed Tropical Storm Erin, it is expected to develop into the season’s first hurricane and continue to grow into a major tempest by the weekend.

At this point, there is no clear answer on the million-dollar question: Where is Erin headed?

Currently located about 300 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, and well over 2,000 miles east of Puerto Rico, Erin has a long way to go before it presents any potential threat to landfall. The current forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for Erin to strengthen slowly over the next couple of days. Then, the pace of its growth is expected to accelerate.
