CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – Homeowners in Clovis can test their well water for free this week. The New Mexico Environment and Health Departments will be at the Curry County Fair this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to take water samples from the first 100 people, or while supplies last. Results will be mailed within two to three weeks. Water will only be tested from homes that use private wells for drinking water.
Here are some guidelines provided by the department for gathering a well water sample: • "Let the water run for two to three minutes before collecting the sample • Fill a clean glass or plastic container without any odors with at least a quart or liter of your well water • If the home has a whole-house filtration system, collect the water at the well head before any filtration
