Gov. Larry Rhoden is touting a record meth seizure in Sturgis as evidence that Operation: Prairie Thunder is needed in the state.
A press release from the governor's office on Aug. 11 said that the South Dakota Highway Patrol stopped a 42-year-old man for speeding on Interstate 90 in Sturgis. During the stop, a police dog alerted a trooper to an odor, which led to the discovery of 207 pounds of crystal methamphetamine.
The driver is now facing felony charges of distribution/manufacturing of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, as well as a misdemeanor charge of possession/use of drug paraphernalia.
