Panther Pulse Update Reveals Tragic Loss of Panther Kittens

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) confirmed Monday the tragic deaths of two 3.5-month-old female Florida panther kittens. The kittens, identified as UCFP489 and UCFP490, were found on August 10, 2025, on Davis Blvd in Collier County.

A vehicle collision is the suspected cause of death.

The remains of the sibling panthers were collected by FWC biologists, who will examine them to gather valuable information for ongoing conservation efforts.

This incident brings into sharp focus the persistent threat that vehicle collisions pose to the state’s endangered panther population, a threat the FWC identifies as the primary cause of death for these animals.
