President Donald Trump referenced crime in Baltimore during a news conference Monday, prompting a response from the city’s mayor.

When announcing the federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department and the deployment of the National Guard in Washington, Trump said Baltimore and a few other cities in the country were “so far gone” when it came to addressing violent crime.

“This issue directly impacts the functioning of the federal government and is a threat to America, a threat to our country.
