Two 11-week-old puppies were discovered abandoned in the woods in Randolph Friday, police said.

A passerby alerted police early Friday morning after finding one male and one female puppy “thrown to the side” along a path between a school and Barbara Road, the Randolph Police Department said in a Facebook post .

Police believe the abandonment occurred on or before Friday.

The puppies were rushed to VCA South Shore Weymouth Animal Hospital. Due to the extent of the male puppy’s injuries, he had to be euthanized, according to police.

The puppy that survived is doing well and being treated, WCVB reported .

Randolph police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the person or people responsible for abandoning the puppies.
