Lauren Sánchez felt “proud,” but also “heartbroken,” as she dropped her son, Evan Whitesell, off at college.

The former journalist posted a photo of her 19-year-old son putting together furniture for his dorm room on Monday.

“Dropped off Evan at college today,” she wrote. “18 years of early mornings, late night snacks, and family dinners … and then there he was building his own dorm cabinet, a small thing, but in that moment I saw the start of his next chapter.”

Sánchez noted that she was “proud, heartbroken” and “grateful,” adding a heart emoji.

Evan is attending the University of Miami , where he plans to study business.
