Huntsville is closing in on 250,000 residents, according to city planners.
The Planning Department estimated the population of Alabama’s largest city to be 249,102 as of July 1 . According to a story on the city’s website, that’s more than 34,000 new residents over the past five years, or about 18 new people each day.
U.S. Census data placed Huntsville at 230,402 at the end of 2024, still easily outpacing the other cities in Alabama’s top four in population of Birmingham, Mobile and Montgomery.
“While the City considers Census data valuable, the Planning Department’s annual estimates provide a real-time snapshot of current conditions to guide City leaders,” the story on the city’s website states.
