AUSTIN, Texas- Three people are dead after a shooting in the parking lot of a Target store in Austin, Texas.

Police say the gunman opened fire inside the store during the busy back-to-school shopping rush.

Austin police chief Lisa Davis says the suspect ran from the scene, stole a car, crashed it, and then hijacked another before being taken into custody.

A fourth person was treated for unrelated injuries.

Police say the suspect, who is a 32-year-old man, has a history of mental illness.
