OSSIPEE, N.H. —
One New Hampshire family is demanding justice for their loved one, who police say was killed at a Walmart in Somersworth.
Jan Van Tassle's family described him as a hardworking man, a 40-year volunteer firefighter, and someone who would give the shirt off his back.
More than two years after his death, the family is still seeking answers about the killing and pushing for changes to the system.
Police said Brian Roberge killed Van Tassle in what the family called a random attack.
Court paperwork documents show Roberge had a criminal record and a history of mental illness, including a charge that was dropped just one day before Van Tassle was killed.
Officials said Roberge passed an assessment that found he was not a threat to the public and was released from jail.
