MADISON (WKOW) -- The man charged in a deadly shooting outside an apartment on the northside of Madison appeared in court Monday.

Joshua Dean, 32, of Chicago, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Court records reveal Dean had been in prison for the last six years and was just released on extended supervision weeks before he shot and killed 30-year-old Lee Scott III.

Dean and Scott showed up at the Avenue Square Apartments on Schlimgen Avenue around 3:40 a.m. on July 22. The two walked in together, spent time inside an apartment and left about 15 minutes later.

According to a criminal complaint, it was in the parking lot where Dean was seen walking slightly behind Scott, pulling out a gun and shooting him.
