The U.S. Coast Guard has called off the search for a missing fisherman in Newport.
At 4 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a capsized fishing vessel near the Yaquina Bay jetty in Newport. Two crew members and the captain were rescued from the boat, Das Bug, and taken to a nearby hospital that evening — but one crew member remained missing.
An initial search Sunday, which included a Coast Guard helicopter, was unsuccessful.
Searching resumed Monday morning with an MH-65 Dolphin air crew from Air Station North Bend, which conducted aerial searches of the area. The Coast Guard suspended this search at 10:15 a.m., according to a news release.
The fourth crew member remains missing. A search may resume if “new information is presented about the case,” a Coast Guard spokesperson said.
