AUSTIN, Texas — Major changes are coming to Austin ISD in the 2026-2027 school year.

On Monday, the district rolled out a new consolidation process that will include school closures for that year. District leaders made it clear that the data rubric released , which consists of a list of schools, is not a closure list.

Over the next two months, district leaders will be following a two-part plan that will analyze which schools need changes. They are each rated on a total score ranging from 1 to 5, with 5 being where the fixes are needed the most. The scores are based on cost per student, building condition and enrollment. They will also be looking into transfer rates and which bond projects are attached to campuses.
