Emergency services were called to north Manchester on Monday (August 11) following reports of a man in the water.

Police and paramedics were called to the water rescue incident in the Rochdale Canal in Newton Heath after receiving reports a man had fallen in.

Local residents called emergency services, who arrived and were later able to save the man and give him medical treatment at the scene.

There was a large emergency services presence in the area while the man was rescued from the water.

A statement shared by Greater Manchester Police read: "Earlier today, Your Neighbourhood and Response officers attended reports of a male who had fallen into the canal in Newton Heath .
