When Texas Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, stopped in El Paso to visit the Camp East Montana migrant detention center on Fort Bliss, it was also to double down on national security rhetoric.

Cornyn's visit on Monday, Aug. 11, was only a "windshield" tour according to his office, but it also was an opportunity to echo much of the sentiment from the Trump administration on removing "criminal aliens" from the country.

"I call it the 'Lonestar Lockup' and it will hold up to 1,000 criminal aliens pending their repatriation to their countries of origin," Cornyn said.
