FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Dragon Bravo Fire is still burning on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and one Northern Arizona University professor is trying to find out what it is doing to the water supply.

Abe Springer, a professor at Northern Arizona University, is preparing to test the water that serves the canyon to make sure it is safe and will keep flowing long after the fire is out.

“The monsoon season is quickly drawing to a close, but we're really gearing up for the snowmelt season,” Springer said.

His concern is Roaring Springs, the main water source for the Grand Canyon. The fire burned more or less directly over it. The springs are still flowing, but Springer says the problems will come later, when ash, dirt and mud wash into the water.
