WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Waco Public Radio is in need of listener donations after losing funding from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting and Baylor University.
KWBU has been an NPR affiliate for 25 years.
In July, congress voted to rescind $1.1 million dollars from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. In August, the CPB announced it would be shutting down. KWBU’s funding from the CPB ended in July of 2025.
Baylor University also cut funding to the station as a part of its campuswide strategic budget relocation process.
“We are now entirely locally supported,” KWBU President Joe Riley said.
Riley said KWBU needs 1,500 additional members to make annual donations in order to convince the stations board to keep them on the air. The station has around 15,000 weekly listeners.
