On July 4, a wayward firework set fire to the brush of a house on Schenectady's Garner Avenue, eventually spreading to the house’s porch. Aaliyah Torain and her mother Danielle Torain immediately rushed to put out the flames.

To no avail, Torain banged on the door trying to get the residents to leave and suffered an asthma attack with smoke inhalation, but that didn’t stop her and Danielle from putting out the flames.
