EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- A 26-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly filing a false police report after she was involved in a hit-and-run crash and then tried to report her vehicle as stolen afterwards, El Paso Police said.

On Aug. 6, police arrested Lesley Delgado Garcia, 26, for filing a false report. She was booked under a $1,500 bond.

On April 27, Garcia walked into the Northeast Regional Command and reported that her vehicle had been stolen.

Auto theft investigators began to work her case, police said.

The investigators soon learned that the Special Traffic Investigations Unit was also investigating Garcia's vehicle in a hit-and-run that happened the day before.

They determined that she had reported her vehicle stolen in an apparent attempt to avoid charges in the crash.
