69-year-old Sammy Jenkins was shot and killed by an Albuquerque Police Department officer, after APD officials say he shot at officers several times during a July 15 stand-off outside his home.

On Monday, APD Chief Harold Medina held a press conference to share new details in the 10th officer-involved shooting in 2025.

July 15, 2025

Around 5 p.m.:

Sammy Jenkins' wife calls 911 to tell dispatchers that her husband had taken pills, was drinking and feared for his life. A few minutes later, his wife is heard on a separate 911 call asking for the call to be "canceled." When asked why, she tells a dispatcher, "More out of pride at this point."
