SEASIDE HEIGHTS, New Jersey (WABC) -- One man is dead and four others are in stable condition after getting caught in a rip current at an unguarded Seaside Heights beach in New Jersey on Monday.
Seaside Heights Fire Department received calls for reports of multiple swimmers in distress shortly after 6:30 p.m.
They responded to Webster Avenue Beach, where they deployed two jet skis to rescue the distressed swimmers.
They were all taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where one swimmer was pronounced dead.
The man has not been identified yet.
The other swimmers are in stable condition.
Lifeguards usually leave around 5 p.m. The was beach was unguarded during the time of the rescue.
