A Daytona Beach man accused of killing Lawrence Davis at an auto detailing shop in Holly Hill two years ago refused to take a plea deal in court on Monday, leaving the victim's mother, LaShandra Miles Long, upset and shocked.

Miles Long said she was surprised by the decision of Kurtis Elliott, who was expected to enter a plea.

Elliott is already serving at least nine years for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and drug trafficking after ramming a police car in April 2023 during an arrest attempt by Daytona Beach police.

"He was the one who initially made the call to say he would take it, so it was a shocker for me," Miles Long said.

She expressed her disbelief at Elliott's refusal to take the plea, noting that he had been quiet during most court hearings until he declared
