GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The City of Greenville is once again pausing action on a public camping ordinance that would ban sleeping and other activities in community spaces.
Councilman John DeWorken (Dist. 1) first proposed the ordinance back in June, but after receiving criticism, City Council postponed the vote until August 11.
Monday night’s meeting made clear the city is taking careful steps to ensure any future ordinance address community concerns.
“We’re talking about human beings,” DeWorken said. “It’s a complicated issue.”
That issue brought a packed house to Monday night’s City Council meeting, which began with an address from DeWorken.
