CLAIRTON, PA. — Pa. Sen. John Fetterman told reporters Monday afternoon that it’s too soon to comment on the safety of the Clairton Coke Works, a U.S. Steel plant near Pittsburgh, following an explosion there Monday that killed one person and sent at least 10 to hospitals.
“I refuse to engage in finger-pointing right now until everyone is accounted and brought home,” he responded to a question that noted a 2018 fire damaged the facility’s sulfur pollution controls. “That’s the only thing that matters right now. There’s going to be plenty of time to find out exactly what it is, and I refuse to speculate before they bring everyone home.”
