Consumer protection regulations slashing surprise "junk fees" are set to take effect next month in Massachusetts.
"Junk fees" are hidden, surprise, or unnecessary costs that bring up a product's or service's price beyond what is advertised.
Attorney General Andrea Campbell first announced regulations against these fees in March, explaining that the hidden costs violate the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act .
"We’ve all been there: booked a hotel room, purchased concert tickets, or paid for a service that was advertised at one price and then charged for one exponentially higher – all because of hidden junk fees," Campbell said in a statement.
