Passengers warned as airlines ban common item from cabin over explosion fears

Emirates has joined the growing list of airlines to prohibit power banks due to concerns over fire and explosions. The ban, effective from 1 October 2025, comes after a safety review.

The airline warned that power banks will not be permitted in aircraft cabins because of the potential for "dangerous consequences like fire, explosions, and the release of toxic gases".

In a statement, Emirates said: "There has been a significant growth in customers using power banks in recent years, resulting in an increasing number of lithium battery-related incidents onboard flights across the wider aviation industry.
