AS nearly one ton of giraffe came hurtling towards Nicole Panos and her two young children, she knew it would be impossible to outrun the raging beast.

Just like the giraffe protecting her calf, Nicole's maternal instinct kicked in, as she shielded one-year-old Kaia in her arms and screamed at four-year-old Kayden to run - but tragically, only two of them would escape with their lives.

Nicole was just 25 when she was left paralysed from the waist down while trying to save toddler Kaia and Kayden from a giraffe after it charged at them in the Kuleni Game Park, where they lived, in South Africa , back in October 2023.
