Spanish search and rescue teams have located the body of Cole Henderson, a 27-year-old American hiker who went missing in the Pyrenees last month. His body was discovered on the north face of Monte Perdido, the third-highest peak in the Pyrenees, according to a statement from Spain’s Guardia Civil.

Henderson was reported missing on July 14, after he failed to return to his home in the Netherlands. He had informed friends on July 9 that he planned to hike in Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, located in the province of Huesca. One of his last messages was a text to a friend indicating he had parked his car and was about to switch his phone to airplane mode before starting his hike.

Rescue teams faced challenges accessing the area where Henderson was found. They used a crane to airlift his body from a location described as difficult to reach. Authorities noted that Henderson's body was discovered after a fall of approximately 200 meters, and he showed no signs of life.

The search for Henderson involved multiple specialized teams, including canine units and drone operators. The Guardia Civil had previously indicated that they believed Henderson may have attempted to climb Monte Perdido, which stands at 3,355 meters (11,007 feet) high. The climbing route is classified as “Peu Difficile” (PD), meaning it is somewhat difficult and may require specialized equipment.

In early July, the typical route from the town of Torla, where Henderson's car was parked, was still covered in snow, complicating the search efforts. The search began after Henderson missed his flight home, prompting concern among his friends and family.
