PORTLAND, Maine — The entire state of Maine was listed under a high fire risk Tuesday due to due to continued hot and dry weather conditions.
According to leaders with the Maine Forest Service , it will probably be a few days before the state sees some relief from high wildfire risk.
“That high fire danger will continue until we get some more rainfall, which doesn't look like is forecast any time in the next week. So, the fuel, the vegetative fuels will continue to dry out,” Terri Teller, forest fire prevention specialist with the Maine Forest Service, said. “Any kind of ignition source is more able to create a wildfire situation.”
So far in August, there have been more than 80 wildfires across the state, burning more than 50 acres of land.
