Walmart has quietly settled a third lawsuit for the same accusation: False pricing and incorrect product weighting.
Supermarket News reports that Walmart just paid a $5.6 million settlement for a consumer protection lawsuit.
It happened in California, across the state's 280 Walmart locations. The 2022 lawsuit claimed that Walmart was overcharging customers for items — more than what was on the price tag.
Additionally, the lawsuit claimed they were putting a heavier weight on items they process in store, like pre-sliced fruits, bakery items, etc.
"When someone brings an item to the register to be scanned, the price must be right. They expect it. California expects it. My office expects it, and we will apply the law to make sure of it," Santa Clara District Attorney Jeff Rosen said.
