Premier R.J. Simpson marked the 20th anniversary of the Tlicho Government, the first in the NWT to combine a comprehensive land claim with a self-government agreement.

Simpson called the agreement a “landmark achievement” and praised the Tlicho Government’s leadership in governance, land stewardship and cultural revitalization.

“The progress made over the past two decades shows what is possible when Indigenous governments and public governments work in true partnership, each bringing their strengths to serve the people of the North,” stated the premier.

Simpson thanked the leaders, Elders and community members who helped make the agreement and said the milestone is a source of pride for both the Tlicho and the territory as a whole.
