AUBURN — In a preseason camp that has packed few fireworks, Auburn football 's special teams unit is ripe with battles for who gets first-team reps.

A pair of spots are seemingly set, with Oklahoma State transfer Hudson Kaak and longtime long-snapper Reed Hughes poised to start. But first-year special teams coordinator Chad Lunsford had a lengthy list of talking points Wednesday in regard to deciding starting spots at kicker and in the return game.

"I really like where we are as a room, as far as what we’re trying to do collectively," Lunsford said of his kickers. "They understand the better the other one is, that’s going to make them better because of the competition. Then we’ll have a hard-fought battle and whoever wins, shake their hand and pull for them."
